The Experience
What to expect.
The Bay of Islands is one of New Zealand's premier fishing destinations. We operate from November through March — the peak of the New Zealand summer — when snapper are at their most active, kingfish run hard through the warmer months, and the outer reefs hold a variety of species that will test any angler. Your skipper has fished these waters for decades and knows the marks, the tides, and the techniques that produce results.
All premium Shimano gear is supplied — rods, reels, bait, and tackle. No experience is necessary; your skipper will guide beginners through every step. Experienced anglers are equally welcome to bring their own gear and fish their own way.
We offer half-day and full-day options. Half-day charters are ideal for targeting snapper on the morning tide. Full-day charters allow us to explore the outer reefs and target a wider range of species. Fish cleaning and bagging is included — you take home what you catch.

Common Questions
What fish can we expect to catch?
Snapper are the primary target throughout our November–March season. Kingfish, kahawai, and trevally are common during the warmer months. The outer reefs hold blue cod, tarakihi, and occasionally hapuku (groper). And if conditions align — marlin.
Do I need a fishing licence?
No. Saltwater fishing in New Zealand does not require a personal licence. The charter covers all regulatory requirements.
Can beginners join a fishing charter?
Absolutely. Your skipper will teach you everything you need to know. Many of our most enthusiastic guests have never held a fishing rod before.
What happens to the fish we catch?
You keep everything you catch (within legal size and bag limits). We clean and bag the fish on board. We encourage sustainable fishing and practice catch-and-release for undersized or non-target species.
